I just haven’t had the urge to blog. What I have had the urge to do is curl up on the couch and watch Dr. Who episodes for 3 solid days. I’ve been trying to figure out why. (I mean, aside from the fact that parents of young children are not allowed to do that. Ever.) I think it has something to do with my memory of Christmas vacation. There was a lot of family time, sure, but a lot of time to rest. Especially during high school and college, there was some kind of deep need to Lay Down and not Do Anything while school was out and the weather was chilly.
This year school was out (even Rob was forced to not work from December 24th to January 4th) and the weather was chilly, but we couldn’t Lay Down and Do Nothing. Kind of maddening. Damn this grown-up thing.
This was partly why we kept Christmas very mellow. It doesn’t take much to completely thrill the kids. And, wow, is it ever fun to watch. Rob was sick on New Year’s Eve (thankyouverymuchcentraltexascederfeveryoubitch) I took the kids to First Night by myself. I must admit I was bitter and not too excited to drag a 3 and 1 year old through the crowds. I even forgot to put shoes on Graham. (WTF? Horrible mother! Horrible!) Such was my state of mind. But the kids ended up being so easy and SO much fun. They were sweetly excited about all the people and the parade. We sat at our usual perfect spot and they watched in amazement for about an hour. Home by 8. Rob was asleep by 8:30.
I curled up on the couch and watched Dr. Who.
Ahhh… Happy New Year.
