The slumber party saga will have to wait. For now I’m on a mission.
Here’s the deal: I’ve spent the past two years working on opening this dual language immersion school. To say it has been an uphill battle is an understatement. Along with the usual personality conflicts, we’ve got the “You’re in America! Speak American!” [...]

I got to see the dress rehearsal for “Jack and the Beanstalk”. The kids were part of a test audience. They were completely thrilled and (incredibly) sat still for 45 minutes, thanks to a fast pace and lots of audience participation.
My good friend Nancy has put together this community theater and produced their first play. [...]

So, every year for Mother’s Day I get a National Geographic subscription (yup… I’m nerdy like that) and a date with Rob (what? no kids? what kind of mother are you?). I’m pretty easy to please.
But maybe I should make it more exciting for whomever wants to shop for me. And by exciting, I mean [...]

Well, the mamas have been working to set up this online auction (which will complement the real-life auction taking place in Austin on May 2nd). This way, people living outside of Austin can participate. And let me tell you, there are so many awesome things you can win, you just have to check [...]

I was trying to explain to Violet that we’re going to a bake sale to help Ike:
“What’s a bake sale?”
“Oh, people make things like cookies, brownies, cupcakes…”

Sasha has been Violet’s imaginary friend since she was 2. Imagine her surprise when she saw Sasha Obama on the cover of a magazine. Today we watched Sasha watching her daddy become president.
Whatever else you may say about today (and it has already been said, much better than I could) Barack Obama is a fun [...]

I just haven’t had the urge to blog. What I have had the urge to do is curl up on the couch and watch Dr. Who episodes for 3 solid days. I’ve been trying to figure out why. (I mean, aside from the fact that parents of young children are not allowed to do that. [...]

I really think I’ve had seasonal affective disorder this year. The sun, though, is what is making me depressed. I usually don’t mind high temperatures, but this summer was the hottest since the Dust Bowl. Nearly 50 days of over 100 degree heat. I don’t care how controlled the indoor environment is, that kind of [...]

Okay, I’m not really sick of home. What I am sick of is triple digit heat. For weeks. WEEKS! So spending cool days and chilly nights in the northwest was a welcome relief. Last year’s rant still applies. I’ll always miss tall trees, mountains and seasons. Sometimes I really don’t think that Austin makes up [...]
